For a change, my parental blunders are not foremost in my mind at the close of this week. What is? The whole brew-haha over Obama’s speech to school children AND the fact that my kid, as yet, has not been shown the speech at her school. I’ve still got some fumes coming from my ears (and choice words coming from my Botox-reduced voice) over that one. 

Well, in keeping with all the political idiocy, I am posting the recipe for a politically inspired drink. Named after Obama himself! Even if the President couldn’t reach all of America’s school children with his message to stay in school, he can at least reach some mommies (and daddies) with an end-of-the-week wind-down cocktail.

This drink  was all the rage across college campuses during the presidential election last year. And while the day is long past when I could drink like a college student, I can still like what a college student drinks. In some twisted way it helps me not to feel so old… or irritated.

I present…

 

THE OBAMA SLAMMER

1 oz. Blue Curacao
4 oz. Florida Orange Juice
3 oz. Chilled (cheap) Champagne
1 Maraschino Cherry

How to Make it:

You will want it ending up in a blue tinge as any true democratic drink should be, so mix the curacao and orange juice accordingly. Fill the Collins glass up with a dash of inexpensive champagne. Garnish with a bright red maraschino cherry (for some bipartisan support).
